Crimes Nearby: Pilot Walks Away from Helicopter Crash in Mattituck

SOUTHAMPTON

A 17-year-old senior was arrested Oct. 26 after parking in the school lot with a shotgun in the car, according to police. The student was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor. No threat was ever made against anyone and there was no ammunition in the car, the school superintendent said. At a court appearance, his attorney said the shotgun was an antique and inoperable, 27east reported.

Garfield Reid, 38, of East Hampton was arrested last  Oct. 27 at 10:38 p.m. at the corner of Sunrise Avenue and Sag Harbor Turnpike in Bridgehampton and charged with fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Reid was a passenger in a car pulled over for a traffic violation when officers saw that he had over 25 grams of marijuana, according to police.

Jairo Lopez-Bonilla, 20, of Bridgehampton was arrested Saturday at 1:27 a.m. at the corner of Sag Harbor Turnpike and Scuttlehole Road in Bridgehampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Police said they saw Lopez-Bonilla driving out of lane when they pulled him over.

Trevor Basserbie, 39, of Water Mill was arrested Oct. 24 at 11:21 a.m. at Southampton Village Police headquarters on Windmill Lane in Southampton and charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor. Police said Basserbie violated an order of protection by calling someone twice from an unknown phone number on Oct. 21 at 1:07 a.m.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Julio Sebastian-Pedro, 24, of Riverhead was arrested Saturday at 8:05 a.m. near the exit for North Road on Sunrise Highway and charged with DWI and unlicensed operation, both misdemeanors. Officers say they saw Sebastian-Pedro driving fast down Flanders Road and he appeared intoxicated when they pulled him over.

Osbeli Salazar, 35, of Southampton was arrested Friday at 2:53 p.m. at the corner of Montauk Highway and Victoria Road in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. Police said Salazar was stopped for leaving the scene of a minor accident when they discovered he appeared intoxicated.

A 53-year-old man from St. James told Town Police that sometime between Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, someone broke into his home on Old Wakeman Road in Hampton Bays and stole a television and DVD player, worth a total of $250. Police are investigating for fingerprints and police determined that local kids go through the man’s property to get to Canoe Place Road.

A 49-year-old man from Hampton Bays told Town Police that sometime last Tuesday, Oct. 25 someone stole an iPhone and case from his car, parked in the driveway of his home on Kyle Road. The man told police that he heard odd noises outside his home at around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 25. Town detectives are investigating.

Craig Oudeans, 42, of East Quogue was arrested Saturday at 3 a.m. on West Side Avenue in East Quogue and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Oudeans kicked in the front door of a home, damaging it and its jamb, police said.
Mysterious Vomit

RIVERHEAD

Two Riverhead men were arrested in Flanders Friday after detectives allegedly discovered them trying to steal a jukebox and other items from a garage.
Police said they received a call about two men loading a pickup truck with items from a Maple Avenue garage on Oct. 28 at around 3:45 p.m. When they arrived at the scene they spotted Jerome Trent, 56, and Jonathan Downing, 48, both of Riverhead, putting a jukebox and other metal items in the truck, according to a police report. The men told police they were helping clean up the property, police said. Town detectives said they discovered the men actually intended to take the items to a scrap yard for money. Trent and Downing were arrested and each charged with third-degree burglary, a felony.

A Flanders man was arrested and charged with drunk driving and other driving violations after Southampton police said he was seen driving erratically on Flanders Road on Oct. 29. Julio Sebastian-Pedro, 24, of Riverhead, was charged with aggravated DWI, speeding, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and other vehicle and traffic violations, according to a police report. Sebastian-Pedro was allegedly seen speeding on Flanders road around 8:05 a.m., police said. He was pulled over at Exit 66 on Sunrise Highway and was found to be intoxicated, police said. He was held for arraignment in the Southampton Town Justice Court.

About two weeks after her , Nicole Leggon faces another charge related to her work as manager of a group home in Riverhead, according to Southampton Town Police. Police said Leggon, 28, of Riverhead cashed and pocketed a $170 payroll check at the on West Second Street in Riverhead on June 30. The check belonged to a disabled resident at the in Riverhead, according to a police report. At the time of the incident Leggon was employed as the house manager and caregiver, according to police. She is currently unemployed. Officers charged her with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, on Oct. 27 at police headquarters, according to a police report.

NORTH FORK

An ultralight helicopter crashed into a marsh near the Mattituck Inlet on Oct. 26 at 7:57 p.m., reported. Erwin Rodger, 68, of Mattituck was attempting to fly the single-engine ultralight helicopter he owned over the inlet and was flying too low due to darkness, police said. He then crashed into a marsh area, flipped the helicopter and left the scene to walk home to his East Side Avenue residence, police said. After seeing rescue personnel looking for him, Rodger, who had facial injuries from the crash, returned to the scene, where he refused medical treatment, police said. No charges have been filed and no other information was available from authorities at press time. Members of the and Suffolk County Aviation assisted Southold Town Police and Bay Constables at the scene.

Luke Conti, 33, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Oct. 28 at 6:14 p.m. after police stopped him for numerous traffic violations on Route 48 in Southold, police said. He was arrested and held for arraignment at Southold Police headquarters.

Carlos Aguilar, 26, of Greenport was charged with driving while intoxicated on Oct. 30 at 1:20 a.m. after police stopped his vehicle near the Greenport 7-Eleven after a computer check revealed that the license plate on his vehicle did not belong on the vehicle, police said. Upon investigation, Aguilar was found to be intoxicated, police said.

Kimberly Corwin, 37, of Greenport was charged with driving while intoxicated on Oct. 30 at 2:07 a.m., after police observed her driving east in the westbound lane of Route 48 in Greenport, police said. Corwin failed several roadside sobriety tests at the scene and was found to be intoxicated, police said.

Juan Hernandez-Huertas, 27, of Greenport was charged with driving while intoxicated, failing to maintain his lane, unlicensed operation, cracked window shield, and failing to submit to a roadside breath test on Oct. 30 at 7:47 p.m., after police responded to a report of a silver four-door sedan driving erratically eastbound on Route 48 in Cutchogue, police said. Hernandez-Huertas was found to be intoxicated and was also found to have an active immigration warrant, police said.
