Crimes Nearby: Man Fishing in Greenport Wanted on Murder Charge in South Korea

The following information was supplied by the East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Southold Town Police arrested a Long Island City man who is wanted on a murder charge in his native South Korea after bay constables found him illegally fishing off of Clark's Beach in Greenport on Sunday at 11:35 a.m., police said.

Byungsoo Kim, 57, was charged with dumping finfish after police saw him fishing on the beach and then dumping the fish back into the sound, disregarding instructions from bay constables not to throw the fish he had caught back into the water, police said. As constables issued a summons, Kim fled the scene. Further investigation revealed that Kim was wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization in his native country, police said.

Kim was found by the Southold Town Police K-9 Unit with the assistance of the Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit. He was arrested on the conservation violation and held for the International Criminal Police Organization.

Jason Capazzola, 36, of Mattituck, was charged with burglary, resisting arrest and harassment on Monday at 1:51 p.m., after a Southold Town Police officer chased him down as he was fleeing the scene of an alleged burglary at a Route 25 Southold residence, police said. Police were called to the scene after Capazzola was discovered within the residence. Capazzola attempted to flee after the first officer arrived. A struggle ensued after the officer caught up with the suspect, who stole money from the residence, an investigation revealed.

Esteban Rodriguez, 21, of Greenport, was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree on Monday at 1:54 a.m., after police responded to a report at 208 North Street in the village, police said. Rodriguez was found hiding in the basement at the residence and was arrested and processed at police headquarters in Peconic, police said.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

Amy Bergh, 25, of Eastport, was arrested Oct. 6 at 11:49 a.m. at her home on North Bay Avenue in Eastport and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. When Bergh’s probation officer conducted a routine visit, Bergh admitted that she had “dope,” or heroin, under her mattress, police said. Bergh has a prior grand larceny charge, police said.

Denise Lombardi, 40, of Yaphank was arrested Oct. 4 at 11:48 a.m. at the corner of Montauk Highway and Quantuck Bay Lane in Quiogue and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police said Lombardi was stopped for an equipment violation when police discovered she had a small amount of cocaine.
Larceny

Debra Fernandes, 53, of Hampton Bays, was arrested Friday at 12:48 a.m. on Montauk Highway West in Hampton Bays and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Fernandes was stopped for driving over the curb onto the sidewalk when she was going to the 7-Eleven.

Melissa Williams, 40, of Hampton Bays, was arrested on Oct. 5 at 1:14 p.m. at the 7-Eleven on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. Williams was sitting on the bumper of a truck when the owner was trying to drive out of the parking lot, according to a police narrative of the incident. Williams yelled obscenities at the truck owner and hit the truck's driver’s side window, creating a 2-inch scratch, police said.

A 45-year-old man from Hampton Bays told town police that sometime on Sept. 28 someone stole his Toyota Tacoma, which was parked in the driveway of his Lynncliff Road home. He had left the keys in the ignition, according to police.

A Southampton Town building inspector told police that someone drove into his town-provided official car and left the scene sometime between Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. and Friday at 7 p.m. at a town facility on Old Riverhead Road in Hampton Bays. The damage looks like it may have been caused when a vehicle parked alongside the building inspector’s car left the spot, according to police. Police took photographs and are investigating.

SOUTHAMPTON

A 46-year-old Southampton man was arrested Friday at 12:38 a.m. and charged with grand larceny after he hit his ex-landlord with a camera, according to Southampton Town police. John Olstromj was returning to his previous residence on Lumber Lane in Bridgehampton to get his things and move them to his new place when he saw his landlord videotaping him with a Sony A55 camera and an N50 zoom lens, according to police. Police said Olstromj took the camera and hit his former landlord, who is over 70 years old and is in a wheelchair. Police charged Olstromj with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal mischief, both felonies. There have been on-going disputes at the Lumber Lane residence, according to police.

A 36-year-old man from Southampton told town police that sometime on Oct. 2 between 6 and 8:30 p.m. someone went into his house on Hills Station Road in Southampton and stole his laptop and $5,000 cash. The man said that he left the front door to his home unlocked, according to an incident report. The man added that his roommate’s dresser drawers were rummaged through but no items were taken, police said.

RIVERHEAD

Carl Ligon, 34, of Calverton was arrested on Oct. 6 on County Road 94 in Riverhead and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor. Police said Ligon was sitting in the passenger seat of a car that police stopped for a traffic violation when he refused to cooperate in the investigation. He resisted arrest, police said, and they used pepper spray to apprehend him, according to a police report.

Douglas Masterson, 48, of St. Petersburg, FL. was arrested on Monday, Oct. 3 at 12:35 a.m. at the corner of Pine Street and Old Quogue Road in Riverside and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they saw Masterson shut off his car lights, pull over on to the side of the road and onto the grass when they investigated and discovered he appeared intoxicated.

More valuable items were reported stolen from in Flanders, just a week after allegedly took place, according to Southampton Town police reports. A Riverhead man told police that sometime between Sept. 26 and Oct. 1 someone used a bolt cutter to clip the lock off of his trailer, located at Peconic Mini Storage, and took a $700 chop saw, $350 table saw and $180 drill, according to a police report. Police said the missing tools have the man’s initials labeled on them. The owner of Sam’s Taxi also told police that sometime between Sept. 17 and Sept. 21, someone broke into his space at Peconic Mini Storage and broke windows of three of the taxis he stores there, police said. Three Garmin GPS's and car batteries were missing and a cable in one of the cars was also broken when the batteries were removed, according to the report.
