Crimes Nearby: Burglar Locked in Bathroom

Residents nab a burglar in the act, according to Southampton Town police.

The following information was supplied by East End police departments. An arrest is only an accusation does not imply a conviction.

A round-up of recent notable arrests and incidents on the East End:

SOUTHAMPTON

• Felicia Biscardi, 21, of East Hampton, was arrested Feb. 27 at 10:53 p.m. at the intersection of Long Beach Road and Noyac Road in Noyac. She was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and marijuana, a misdemeanor. Southampton Town police said Biscardi also had marijuana in her possession. She was initially stopped for speeding and was cited for that charge, a traffic infraction, police said.

• Kelley E. Daige, 26, of Manorville, was arrested March 1 at 6:36 p.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony, as well as criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, both misdemeanors. Southampton Village police said that while on a traffic stop on North Sea Road they found cocaine and marijuana in the vehicle. A 26-year-old man in the vehicle was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

WESTHAMPTON-HAMPTON BAYS

•  said residents nabbed a burglar in the act in the early morning hours of March 3, locking him in the bathroom of a Montauk Highway home in Westhampton. Police charged Matias Samuel Luciano Lopez, 31, of Westhampton Beach on felony charges of burglary and criminal mischief. Police said he had in his possession electronics and jewelry.

• Southampton Town police said they have arrested a 15-year-old on felony burglary charges. Police report that they arrested the juvenile on March 6 after learning that he stole video games and cash from a Speonk home. Police said the teen was released to his parents.

RIVERHEAD

A yielded three marijuana-related arrests at a home on Lake Avenue. A 55-year-old and 29-year-old, both of Riverside, were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. Jose Maysonet, 46, was charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree and criminal use of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

• Following a Riverhead Police Department sting last Thursday, employees at three separate locations around Riverhead were . The sting, conducted the evening of March 1, stopped at 18 different locations throughout Riverhead. One employee at each of the following locations was charged with unlawfully dealing with a minor: Superior Gas, Route 25, Aquebogue; OK Petro, East Main Street, Riverhead; Stop and Go Mini Mart, West Main Street, Riverhead. The individuals charged, according to police, were Gokhan Gunacar, 27, of Miller Place; Ana Flores, 20, of Flanders; and Freddy Collado, 51, of Freeport. The three individuals were processed and released on desk appearance tickets, and the premises reportedly found in violation of state liquor law were reported to the State Liquor Authority.

• A Flanders woman was after police said she was driving drunk with a 5-year-old in the car. According to police reports, Christiene Dacosta was driving southbound on Route 24, near the intersection of Long Neck Boulevard, when she was stopped around 3:45 a.m. Police said she failed to maintain her lane of travel.  According to police, it was determined that Dacosta was driving under the influence of alcohol.

NORTH FORK

• Four Riverhead teens were arrested for an apparent burglary spree in early Friday morning, after a Southold Town police officer stopped the vehicle they were riding for a traffic violation on New Suffolk Avenue in Mattituck, police said. John Purpura, 18, of Jamesport; Brandon Coscia, 18, of Jamesport; Daniel Trimper, 18, of Riverhead; and Maria Schafer, 18, of Riverhead, were each charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools on March 2 at 12:45 a.m. The officer on the scene observed what appeared to be stolen property in the vehicle he’d stopped, and further investigation led police to 910 Park Avenue Extension in Mattituck, where officers discovered two summer residences burglarized and three other residences where entry was attempted, police said.

• Linda Evangelista, 57, of Southold, was charged with driving while intoxicated on March 5 at 1:35 p.m. after she lost control of her vehicle as she drove north on Boisseau Avenue in Southold. Evangelista attempted a left-hand turn onto Route 48 and struck a utility pole on the north side of the highway, police said. She was found to be in an intoxicated condition, was arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic for processing, police said.

• William Caldwell, 50, of Westford, Mass., was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, speeding, open container of an alcoholic beverage, and refusing to take a roadside breath test on March 3 at 11:25 a.m., after police stopped him for a traffic violation at the intersection of Route 48 and Cox Neck Road in Mattituck, police said. Caldwell was found to be intoxicated, arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic where he was held overnight pending arraignment.
