Crimes Nearby: Aquebogue Man Arraigned On Vehicular Homicide Charge

The following information was supplied by the East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Riverhead

• Robert Beodeker, the man whose car struck and killed two pedestrians on the Meadowbrook Parkway on March 4, was arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

According to the Nassau County District Attorney's office, Beodeker, 50, of Aquebogue, was arraigned before Judge Tammy Robbins on a grand jury indictment charging him with aggravated vehicular homicide and other felonies.

According to police, Beodeker was driving his GMC pickup truck southbound on the Meadowbrook Parkway near the Southern State Parkway when he struck a disabled Nissan Maxima, as well as two pedestrians that were standing near the vehicle. The two pedestrians, identified as Edward Ross, 65, of North Bellmore and John Elder, 76, of Freeport, were pronounced dead at the scene. Beodeker, who was a dean at Suffolk County Community College, was arrested and initially charged with reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Charges were later upgraded to manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while impaired by drugs.

He remains in jail on bail. Beodeker faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted and is due back in court April 30.

• Mark Goode, 40, of Mastic, was charged on April 13 with criminal contempt in the first degree, a felony, after police said they responded to a call regarding harassment in Riverside. Police further charged Goode with harassment in the second degree, a violation.

Westhampton-Hampton Bays

• Crime Stoppers and Southampton Town police are asking the public to help them locate a man who allegedly robbed South Fork Realty, located at 143 Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, on April 5. According to police, the man walked into the realty agency and took cameras and two checks and then fled. The following day, police said, he attempted to cash one of the checks at the Suffolk County National Bank in Center Moriches.

Southampton

• Lisa L. Grove, 49, of Medford, was arrested April 4 at 8:43 p.m and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, both felonies, as well as two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. Southampton Village police said Grove went to Rite Aid on Nugent Street with a forged prescription for the drug oxycodone. Upon arrest, she was also found to be in possession of a glass crack pipe and crack cocaine, according to police. Grove was arraigned then released after posting $5,000 bail.

• Anthony T. Massarotti, 30, of Southampton, was arrested April 9 at 12:36 a.m. and charged with felony DWI.  Police said they stopped Massarotti  for multiple vehicle and traffic infractions while he was driving a 1998 Audi eastbound on County Road 39. Massarotti has been convicted of DWI on three occasions, according to police, elevating the DWI charge to a felony. He was held for morning arraignment, police said.

• Aubrey R. Fauvell, 32, of Riverhead, was arrested April 7 at 12:27 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. Police said Fauvell had cocaine on her.  At her arraignment, she was remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside in lieu of $2,500 bail, according to police.

• David G. Morales-Chavarria, 25, of Riverhead, was arrested April 13 at 3:47 a.m. and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the third degree and aggravated DWI, both misdemeanors.  According to police, they stopped Morales-Chavarria for driving the wrong way on Cameron Street, a one-way street, in a 1992 Toyota Camry. Police said they confiscated a fraudulent Social Security card and Morales-Chavarria was held for arraignment.
