County Recognizes Springs EMS Provider

Karen Haab honored as "one of the South Fork's most dedicated volunteers."

Karen Haab, an advanced emergency medical technician with the Springs Fire Department who was named EMS Provider of the Year in the state, was honored again recently.

Legis. Jay Schneiderman, I-Montauk, presented Haab with a proclamation calling her “one of the South Fork’s most dedicated volunteers.”

Each year since 2001, a firefighter or EMS volunteer from each of Suffolk’s 18 legislative districts is selected to recognize.

Schneiderman chose Second Lieutenant Haab, a member of the fire department for 12 years and is also a volunteer firefighter.

In August, the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York honored Haab with the EMS Service Provider of the Year award during the organization's 141st annual convention in Albany.

Haab helped save a 77-year-old man's life after he broke his neck in the surf and he stopped breathing at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett on Aug. 4, 2012.

"Karen is a woman truly worthy of the honor and admiration and gratitude of Suffolk County," Schneiderman said in a statement released this week.
