Some residents in Springs came home earlier this week to find notices from the East Hampton Town Police Department, warning of criminal activity in their neighborhood.

Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said on Wednesday that there were three reports of items being stolen from cars on Montauk Boulevard, Seabright Avenue and Hildreth Place.

Over the past few years, there are have been several rashes of larcenies from vehicles.

Anderson said the most recent thief or thieves have been working in "a concentrated area."

"As a result, we try to notify neighboring residents to the victims in the event that there's unreported larcenies. At the same time, we're alerting neighbors to be vigilant," Anderson said.

In all three cases, the cars were left unlocked.

Police recommend locking parked vehicles and removing all personal items. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the East Hampton Town police. They can be reached at 631-537-7575.

Such robberies have not been committed by outsiders or by foreign born residents....many of these robberies have been committed by youngsters or rather young adults in their late teens or early 20's....there are a lot of drugs in this community that are in use by local folks & i am not talking bout marijuana...many parents see this happening but insist on looking the other way...there aren't enough support services out here & by support services I am not talking about Family Service League where young therapists just out of college use it as a training ground....i am talking about skilled & experienced clinicians who are part of A LARGE GROUP OF INSURANCE NETWORKS where people can go & get serious out patient help....many of the young adults out here have addiction problems & abuse alcohol & marijuana & then drive...there are other more serious drugs being used as well but parents & relatives do not come forward....going to church every Sunday & participating in church activities is not going to solve the problem.....

When is the town board going to do something other then bla bla bla and tighten up the security of our town and come up with a plan to make it a little more difficult for everyone's brother cousin sister and uncle to be able to come here and plummet like conquistadors? I say mandatory EPA safety video certificated class for 1 hour that you must have NY State ID to take. Any one working on anyone else's property with out the class's identification card, the owner of the property and the company they are working for are fined by code enforcement!!! Plus in the safety class we can show the proper disposal of garbage, paints, fertilizer, lawnmower gas ect. Same for food handlers and people working in restaurants. Las Vegas does it and it is very effective in keeping illegals out, and informative to prevent food poisonings. Something has to be done!!

The conservative group in this area does not want to do anything about putting laws on House Rentals...A three bedroom house on a 1/2 acre should not have more than one family living there... During the SUMMER, 3 BEDROOM HOMES on a 1/2 ACRE HAVE PERHAPS 25 PEOPLE THERE ON A GIVEN WEEKEND.....NOT SAFE AT ALL.....If owners allow renters with three & four & five families to live in one home & in addition to renting out beds & space to single men who are working temporarily in the area is not very healthy....Large white buckets of HUMAN FECES have been found in close proximity to people's property & elsewhere....But, these laws have to be enforced otherwise sanitation issues & transient issues are going to be a problem....

Isn't it interesting that thee is a LUXURY LIVE IN REHAB FACILITY where if you can afford $50,000 -$80,000 per month at the Dunes Rehab Center in East Hampton, NY , on FT POND BOULEVARD , your addiction will be treated. with an excellent & professional staff ...But, if you are a local individual, & someone in your family has a drug or alcohol problem, you get to go TO THE FAMILY SERVICE LEAGUE & GET TREATED BY INEXPERIENCED OUT PATIENT THERAPISTS JUST OUT OF COLLEGE......AND THE LOCALS CONTINUE TO VOTE REPUBLICAN THINKING THAT THE WEALTHY CONSERVATIVES ARE LOOKING OUT FOR THEM.......HOW SAD!!!!!!

where is this facility? Do tell! I cannot believe it. Like the fancy 30 day treatment vaca places in Ct? Wow. Kids from the high school in the 90's were sent to Apple rehab in Farmingdale for 18 months. And they got clean and sober, no thanks to the high school who " we have no drug problem here..." And no one had to be rich to put their kids there for treatment. They only had to administer tough love. Probkem too, is we have a society of parental enablers. Their kids do no wrong and when they do it to them, steal, drug in front of them, they excuse such behavior. Or they drug with them. Education is the answer but the common sense and tough love kind. We either become the solution by standin g up as parents, uncles, aunts, and grandparents, and friends and community members, or we are part of the problem. What is being done by your taxpayers money? Where is the police presence in our poorly lit neighborhoods? I'll buy the lightbulbs, keep your porch lights on, it deters crime. Proven fact. Backyard light too. Pay now or pay for your property stolen later. Boy, I am riled up on a Saturday before coffee! maybe I should run for supervisor!
Melpo September 14, 2013 at 10:59 AM
The facility is on Fort Pond boulevard....BTW, tough love does not always work...in fact, it is sometimes the reason why youngsters resort to criminal behavior....love & support & compassion & understanding & time work better...unfortunately, there are drug issues in this area & drug & alcohol abuse by many youngsters & young adults in this part of NY State....There is an enormous need for AFFORDABLE & EXPERIENCED & SKILLED CLINICIANS IN THIS AREA TO WORK WITH THE MANY ISSUES THAT FAMILIES HAVE....THERE IS A TENDENCY TO AVOID & DENY THAT PROBLEMS EXIST.....BUT, GOOD. SOLID EXPERIENCED CLINICIANS ARE NEEDED TO BE AVAILABLE & WHO PARTICIPATE IN MULTI INSURANCE NETWORKS SO THAT FAMILIES CAN AFFORD THE MUCH NEEDED SERVICES....
Melpo September 14, 2013 at 12:18 PM
Tough love & the hard core mentality does not work....in fact, that is what breeds future criminals....never mind what they did many moons ago...many moons ago, things were very different....one cannot compare.the times ..we have to move forward....Yes, this community & many others in the US is changing & with change comes tolerance & understanding....parenting is a verb....parenting is on going & forever...it requires LOVE, PATIENCE, UNDERSTANDING, YIELDING & CONSTANT GIVING....Throwing one's children out is not always the best solution & boot camp mentality does not work for everyone....youngsters & people rebel for many reasons & isolation & lack of resources are some of the reasons.....but, many parents out here do not understand the need FOR BETTER MENTAL HEALTH AVAILABILITY & PERHAPS HAVING A BRANCH OF A 4 YEAR SUNY SCHOOL IN CLOSER PROXIMITY....VOTING for politicians who are encouraging WEALTHY DEVELOPERS TO BUILD MULTI MILLION DOLLAR HOMES & CROWD THE AREA IS ONLY FOSTERING & ENCOURAGING PEOPLE INTO A LACK OF RESOURCES & AFFORDABLE HOUSING.....WHEN HOME OWNERS ARE ALLOWED TO RENT OUT THEIR HOMES TO 5 or 6 FAMILIES AT A TIME ON SMALL ACREAGE & LIVING CONDITIONS BECOME UNHEALTHY & UNSANITARY, IT AFFECTS ALL OF US....
Krystyna September 15, 2013 at 11:14 AM
For the record - Fort Pond is in Springs (East Hampton) not Montauk. I think people want to place blame toward a community or type of person(s) that they do not like instead of problem solving. A good start would be to protect yourself and your belongings. The east may look like the peaceful rural countryside but it's not all that it seems.
Melpo September 15, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Yes, Fort Pond is in East Hampton.....That was not an issue...I don't think that anyone here said it was in Montauk...we have been discussing the Springs all this time & the series of robberies that have been occurring in the Springs...What has been going on in Montauk or not going on is an entirely different issue...
Nanci e. LaGarenne September 15, 2013 at 01:31 PM
hmmm, Melpo, I must beg to differ or agree to disagree on subject of tough love. It absolutely does work, when combined with love, understanding and consistency and a joint parental unit. Lacking the above, surely no, it won't be a solution. However, sometimes the professional place of support in one's community is great with parental and teen cooperation. We had an adult facility in the 90's, Apple, by industrial road in East Hampton. Teens were not permitted there, they had to go to Apple, in Farmingdale. Thankfully people like Maryann Strong helped place teens who asked for help to be housed there for rehab, which worked. No one threw their teens out in the street. Rather the entire family visited regularly and participated in the family counseling. It was a stellar program. It saved teenagers lives. On the opposite end of spectrum, parents who by their lack of guidance, education, whatever, excused their teens behavior, criminal activity, and they remained in the community getting no help at all. That was my point. I can speak very well about this and so can many other parents out here. We held weekly support groups in our home and in the community church basement. We involved the high school principal at the time, who to his credit, addresses the problem and showed up to speak with parents. Yes, community is very important. It often does take a village to raise a child. And that is no different today.

btw, I agree with your ideas about better mental health resources needing to be present. And a good school available for everyone close by. Though there is nothing wrong with SuffolkCommunity College to get a fine education if one wants it. I went there myself as a returning adult. That said, yes, let us put people in local political office that give a damn about the community, not the rich builders, not the tourists ahead of us, not spending tax dollars frivolously. We have a voice if we are united. I belong to a group called Freetown Neighborhood Advisory Committee, dedicated to preserve our way of life out here and open space in crowded neighborhoods. Six years we have been around as a group.
Melpo September 15, 2013 at 02:42 PM
that group sounds very good..
Melpo September 15, 2013 at 02:45 PM
Too bad that facility no longer exists....a solid mental health facility with competent, experienced clinicians who are part of the broad spectrum of Health Care Providers is definitely needed...
Nanci e. LaGarenne September 15, 2013 at 02:46 PM
it was very effective in bringing community issues to light. we are 200 strong and all are welcome! we have a political voice as voters and will express such at the polls.
Melpo September 15, 2013 at 02:55 PM
where do you meet?....because if wealthy developers continue to do what they are doing, the environment & ecosystem will be destroyed ....in addition, I am all for affordable housing & I understand that thee is a need for it .....but, when politicians cater to people who own several homes & allow these homes to be rented out to 5 & 6 families plus sub rental of beds for day workers, we run into sanitary conditions where big buckets of Human Feces are being deposited close to homes & in the dump....that is a RED FLAG for some VERY SERIOUS ILLNESSES.....But, conservative republican politicians cater to those who own homes & seek to rent them out to as many as possible so as to collect rent.....that is VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM IN THE SPRINGS THAT NO ONE ADDRESSES.....SIMPLE SANITARY & HEALTH & OVERCROWDED CONDITIONS ......

Melpo, You got a lot of nerve! What nonsense you put forward as fact (s.) Would you give us one name, one example of these charges you make. Give one address where I can verify people are saving shit in buckets & emptying them next to other peoples' houses. Get a life You have lost any credibility & the RED FLAG that is VERY SERIOUS is the lie that Latinos (we know what you mean about crowded houses) have degraded our neighborhoods. Just the opposite, they have bought and made beautiful dilapidated & unkempt houses up & down Gardiner's Ave & Ft. Pond Blvd & all their side streets. The same in Freetown. How can you assert such a tired lie as the Town giving the very few precious affordable housing to slumlords who pack their other homes they own with a 1/2 dozen families. Again, name just one person. Give us just one address. How & where have you gotten these "facts?" You have much nerve to claim another's bland, innocuous statements as rude, w/ nothing positive or constructive to offer when it's you who assert extremely unwelcome statements . Civilized people do not try raise the level of racial misinformation. Give us just one address. One. Or retract yr calumny & hate speech.
Melpo September 16, 2013 at 12:33 PM
I am Latino & you misunderstood completely.....during the summer months, group shares become very high with young urban professionals & urban families sharing Summer Rentals...the season begins as earaly as May & ends in late October....many group shares continue into Fall weekends...so, yes, when there is only one or two bathrooms in a small home & there are several group members there, sanitary issues become a problem & septic systems are not maintained by the owners of these homes...Don't assume you know something about someone when in actuality you don't...I am very proud of The Latino members of the community & praise their work ethic & cohesive family values ..
Melpo September 16, 2013 at 12:56 PM
the group rentals have had an enormous impact on this community during the months of may-september...on weekends, the beaches fill up with garbage & lewd behavior & beer cans & liquor bottles all over the place....they take taxis to the beach that drive at high speeds ignoring all traffic rules & the urban renters many times sub rent space & beds to anyone who is looking for a weekend or to people who are working out here during peak season....there have been as many as 25 people in a three bedroom home with two bathrooms in this area during peak season weekends with people ranging from single urban professionals to single urban parents, single people or with people who are working as extra help during the busy season.....it varies but nevertheless, the crowding exists because landlords are allowed to do this & do not care how many people are there as long as they get their high rent which is why renters sub rent space as well....it is a known fact & articles have appeared in new york magazine as well as in other urban magazines.....get your facts straight & just go & speak to people who work at the dump......not to mention all the traffic rules that are ignored & what about the woman who rented her house out to one family not too long ago only to discover that there was no family but rather an individual who was making porno films & her home was filled with people on weekends & cars parked all over the place.....get your facts straight .....

Well bully for you Melpo, We can't verify what you say is true or not here. If you are Latino, give us one name; if not, give us one address. I do not care if you are Latino, proud or faked. Either way, you sure gave us some b.s. in yr earlier post. You need not tell anybody here there are group party homes. Perhaps even with non-functional toilets, who instead of calling up their landlord & telling him he needs to call a cesspool service, would find it simpler or easier to have people shit in a bag to deliver next door or to a more admired neighbor, further away. People can evaluate your truthfulness only from what you have stated is true, fact or nonsense. Enough of the nonsense! You have evaded my entire previous request that you give us one example, one name, one address. Where, what is yr source of information? Did someone tell you their toilet was full? You have nothing to fear since you use a Nick, we don't know who you are, where you live, your telephone #.. Nobody can cause you a problem. So please tell us; being Latino isn't an excuse. Por pavor.
Melpo September 16, 2013 at 02:27 PM
The people who work at the dump have made such discoveries over the years & people who live near wooded areas have located such deposits made in large white buckets that are used for construction materials....i don't think that people defecated in buckets as a means of hostility or revenge against a neighbor but instead due to lack of bathroom facilities due to overcrowded conditions , people used alternatives to relieve themselves & simply used wooded areas to dispose of it ....not all landlords are responsible & honorable & respond to repairing items ....when there are two bathrooms & lets say 15 people who need to use the facilities, problems do occur.....I do not understand your point or what you are all about or what your focus is....This is not an issue of racism or prejudice but you conveniently turned it into one for whatever reasons .....The issue started off as crime sprees & robberies in the springs area & if you read my earlier post, I STATED THAT I DO NOT THINK THAT THESE ROBBERIES ARE BEING COMMITTED BY OUTSIDERS OR FOREIGN BORN MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.....I THINK THAT THERE ARE MANY ISSUES THAT SURROUND OUR LOCAL TEENS & YOUNG ADULTS & ONE BEING THAT A SOLID & WELL STAFFED MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY BY EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS THAT IS PART OF INSURANCE NETWORKS IS GREATLY NEEDED IN THE COMMUNITY...That is all....stick to the focal point .....

One example, one name. Now we find out some unnamed person who is working at the dump informed you or you heard tell from someone else. 5-gal plastic pails do not melt, so if placed in the woods full of excrement, it would no doubt still be there. Name one location. I will go verify yr inside info. As you said "IT IS A SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEM." I suppose the Wall St. party house boys & girls have never heard of malaria & don't mind the buckets, nor the Latinos whom you say you were not referring to . So far you are just, maliciously or not, spreading rumor unless you provide a specific name or address. We are still waiting.
Melpo September 16, 2013 at 04:15 PM
no, I will not give you names of people....not my place to do that...these things do not occur in areas where there are multi million dollar homes b cause, group rentals during the peak season are not allowed there....The group rentals occur in less affluent areas & you know that...and i do not think hat your local politicians who cater to your wealthy clientele really care what happens or does not happen in less affluent areas...so, again, wait all you want b cause i am not giving you addresses or locations or names of employees because that is not a cool thing to do....it has been reported to the town but local politicians have to want to give a damn about group rentals & all that entails with that sort of thing between the months of may -september which are the peak months of group vacation rentals from urban folks...This conversation is officially over b cause you are in desperate need of reading comprehension skills.....have a good day & think what you want to think...
Melpo September 16, 2013 at 04:21 PM
people have called the town & the Health Dept & removal of such waste has been done by people who do that sort of thing....it has not been made public & lets see if you can figure out why it would not be made public....They do not want to scare tourists & other potential group vacation renters so of course it is kept under the radar....So, you can just say what you want to say, call me a liar or whatever other names who wish to do so , I am not providing you with locations or names of residents & employees.....

"This conversation is officially over b cause you are in desperate need of reading comprehension skills.....have a good day & think what you want to think..." And then you go on Melpo. . . blah, blah, bla is exactly right. And do tell us who is the "they" that "do not want to scare tourists & other potential group vacation renters?" Just who would not want to scare away people who shit in plastic pails & deliver the goods to a favorite neighbor? Where are they getting all these plastic pails? Are "they" the people who answered the phone at the 911 dispatch center or the person who answers the phone in the supervisor's office or the town operators who want to keep this HEALTH THREAT a secret? Must they all be conservative republicans, too? You should have ended the conversation much earlier, Melpo, nevertheless, yr written English is natively idiomatic, awfully good for a Latino or a local, native-born huckster who wants to establish innocence from prejudice or dishonesty by claiming to be Latino or just an exemplar citizen. "They" and not the dastardly conservative republican politicians who cater to the wealthy might be the real culprits keeping us in the dark about this imminent health threat. Phu--leeze Louise, do tell us who are these "they" conspiring to ruin our health by keeping us in the dark about these pail shiters or pale sitters.
