Cops Warn Springs Residents of Thieves

Police recommend locking your car doors and removing personal items.

Some residents in Springs came home earlier this week to find notices from the East Hampton Town Police Department, warning of criminal activity in their neighborhood.

Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said on Wednesday that there were three reports of items being stolen from cars on Montauk Boulevard, Seabright Avenue and Hildreth Place.

Over the past few years, there are have been several rashes of larcenies from vehicles.

Anderson said the most recent thief or thieves have been working in "a concentrated area."

"As a result, we try to notify neighboring residents to the victims in the event that there's unreported larcenies. At the same time, we're alerting neighbors to be vigilant," Anderson said.

In all three cases, the cars were left unlocked.

Police recommend locking parked vehicles and removing all personal items. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the East Hampton Town police. They can be reached at 631-537-7575.
