A 22-year-old Springs man was arrested on charges that he had sex with an underaged girl in late August, said.
Police charged Daniel S. Hewes with second-degree rape, where the victim is less than 15, and criminal sex act in the second-degree, where the victim is less than 15, both felonies, and sexual abuse in the third degree and acting in a manner injurious of a child under 17, both misdemeaors, on Sept. 6.
Lisa R. Rana released him on $25,000 bail after the girl and her parents went to police last week.
State law protects the victim's identity and was not released. Her exact age was also not released.
The girl's mother told detectives on Aug. 30 that she found out her daughter "had become involved with an older man she believed to be in his 20s in an inappropriate manner," according to the police report.
Police said there were three separate incidents of sexual activity between the 22-year-old and the victim.
His attorney Edward Burke Jr., of Sag Harbor, did not immediately return a request for comment.
