Cops: Robber Threatened To Use Gun During Springs Holdup

Police release a description of robber and ask for the public's help.

The man who robbed a Springs liquor store on Saturday evening said he had a gun, but never actually showed it while he demanded cash, according to East Hampton Town police.

Detectives released a statement late Saturday night that said the robber, who is still at large,"confronted the clerk and threatened the use of a gun" at Springs Wines & Liquor at 839 Springs Fireplace Road, on the corner of Fort Pond Boulevard, at about 4:50 p.m.

"The suspect never displayed a weapon, but kept his hand in his vest's pocket indicating he had one," Detective Sgt. Robert Gurney said.

The robber took cash from the register and ran on foot along Fort Pond Boulevard toward Three Mile Harbor Road. Police did not say how much cash was taken.

The clerk was not injured in the robbery, which was reported at 4:53 p.m.

The robber has been described as a white man, in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6-feet tall with medium build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a dark colored vest and tan pants.

Police have asked anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to call the Town Police at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential.
