Cops: Man Ejected in Montauk Rollover

A witness told police the driver of an S.U.V. tried to pass him on Flamingo Avenue on Sunday afternoon.

A man suffered a head injury after he was ejected in a rollover accident in Montauk on Sunday afternoon.

According to chatter on the police radio, the 22-year-old man was thrown from a sport utility vehicle traveling over 50 m.p.h. on Flamingo Avenue sometime before 3:15 p.m. It was believed the man was a passenger.

The driver in a second vehicle told police that the S.U.V. had tried to pass him on the left.

called a detective to the scene of the accident, where the vehicle came to a rest on its roof.

The treated the victim at the scene and transported him to the , where the Suffolk County helicopter airlifted him to Stony Brook University Hospital at about 3:45 p.m. The ambulance company also transported another victim from the scene.

A correction to the article was made. The man ejected from the vehicle was 22-years-old, not 27 and there were two cars involved in the accident, though only one sustained major damage.
