The in East Hampton Village on Monday night was unfamiliar with the area, police said.
Charlie F. Brown, 70, of Jamaica, Queens, drove his Chrysler four-door sedan straight into the from Woods Lane, where he had been traveling east on Montauk Highway, and did not turn completely as is required to stay on the road.
The accident was called into police at 10:03 p.m.
Captain Mike Tracey said that Brown was confused as to his location.
Brown was taken to Southampton Hospital for minor injuries and released on Tuesday morning in good condition, according to the hospital.
No charges have been filed.
While all four tires of the car were submerged in the pond, Brown was able to open his driver's side door and exit the vehicle.
"The pond, in some places, is extremely shallow -- a couple of inches at best," Tracey said.
"I've seen them go in deeper," he said of past accidents.
A tow truck pulled Brown's Chrysler out of the pond by 11 p.m. on Monday.
