Cops: Driver Flown to Stony Brook Wrecked Corvette Driving Drunk

Alexis Rivera Narvez has serious, but they are not life threatening, according to police.

The driver airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital following an accident overnight on Monday has been charged with drunken driving, police said.

Alexis Rivera Narvez, 20, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge, East Hampton Town Police Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said on Tuesday morning.

Rivera Narvez was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette on Hands Creek Road when he drove into a wooded area, striking trees, near Atlantic Street, at about 11:50 p.m., Anderson said.

He was pinned inside the Corvette. The East Hampton Fire Department's heavy rescue squad freed him, during an extrication process that took about 30 minutes.

Rivera Narvez was airlifted to Stony Brook with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, Anderson said. East Hampton Town police met him there, but he was released with an appearance ticket due to his injuries. He will be arraigned at a later date.

A passenger was taken to Southampton Hospital with injuries, as well.
