Cops Solve Montauk Burglaries, Link Defendant to Other Cases

More charges are expected to be filed against Franklin Guanga Sinchi.

East Hampton Town police arrested a man they say is responsible for three burglaries at Montauk hotels last month, including one that was occupied at the time.

Franklin Guanga Sinchi, 30, allegedly stole electronics, jewelry, and women's undergarments from rooms at the Ocean Beach Resort on 108 South Emerson Ave. and an occupied room at Daunt's Albatross at 20 South Elmwood Ave., just down the street from his residence. Police arrested Guanga Sinchi, who lives at 12 South Elmwood Ave., on Friday.

"Using surveillance images captured by detectives during the investigation, Guanga Sinchi was identified from a prior arrest," police said.

Detectives have also linked him to several other burglaries in the area, some as old as 2007, they said on Saturday afternoon. Further charges are expected.

Guanga Sinchi is awaiting arraignment on three counts of second-degree burglary, a felony, two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, and one count of criminal mischief in the fourth-degree, also a misdemeanor.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking that anyone with information contact East Hampton Town police at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential.
