Cops Believe Third Person Involved in Sag Harbor Armed Robbery

Police are also looking for the man depicted in a sketch released on Tuesday, in addition to the couple who held up the Corner Closet last month.

Police said a second man was involved in an armed robbery in Sag Harbor Village last month, and they released a sketch of him on Tuesday.

Sag Harbor Village Police Detective Jeff Proctor said he believes there was a trio "scoping out" stores in the village before two of them robbed the Corner Closet, a vintage consignment shop, at gunpoint on the evening of Nov. 19.

The suspect who is depicted in the police sketch went into Illusions jewelry store at 78 Main Street, just a few doors down from the Corner Closet at 108 Main Street, and asked the identical question that was posed to the owner of the Corner Closet before it was robbed, Proctor said. He declined to reveal what that question was.

"I can't place him in the store at time of the robbery," Proctor said, adding that the question is what connects him to the armed robbers.

The man in the latest sketch is described by police as a Hispanic man, 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build, short black hair and a thin mustache. He is wearing a pair of glasses in the sketch, as well.

On Nov. 19 at about 5:50 p.m., a man and a woman went into the Corner Closet and displayed a handgun. They forced the owner to the back of the store, into a storage area, where her legs and hands were tied up. The robbers then went back to the front of the store where they stole designer handbags, scarves and other accessories.

After they left, the woman was able to get free from restraints and exited the store, at which time she asked someone to call 911, village police said. Police said the robbers fled in a late 1990s or early 2000s four-door white domestic sedan.

Police released a sketch of the man who held up the store the day after the incident, and described him as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall with brown hair and in his late 20s to early 30s. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans.

There is no sketch of the woman. She was described as Hispanic, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall with brown hair and in her late 20s to early 30s. She was wearing a fuchsia sweater vest over a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

Proctor said that investigators are following up on leads and they don't believe the robbers are residents of Sag Harbor.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes either men or has any other information to contact the Sag Harbor Village police at 631-725-0623.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
