Christmas Trees Chopped Down Before the Holiday
Also: $15,000 in jewelry and $10,000 cash were stolen in a safe from a house in Springs.
The following incidents were reported by the East Hampton Town and Village police departments for the week of Dec. 30:
Amagansett
• A caretaker for an Atlantic Avenue property told police security gate key pads were dented, causing the gates to be inoperable, in November. The key pads would each cost $2,500 to repair.
East Hampton
• A 5-foot Spruce Christmas tree was stolen from a town property on Three Mile Harbor at the Head of the Harbor. A resident across the street said it was taken between Dec. 16 and 22. The lights were left behind. It was worth about $35.
• Someone chopped down and took a 13 to 15 foot Norway Spruce tree in front of a house on Huckleberry Lane on Dec. 18. The tree was worth about $600.
Springs
• A safe that contained about $15,000 in jewelry and $10,000 in cash was stolen from a house on Hawthorne Street between 6:25 p.m. on Nov. 28 and 1 a.m. on Nov. 29. Cash was also taken from a dresser. The house was unlocked.
