Arson Arrest Made After Springs Car Fire

A 21-year-old East Hampton woman is accused of setting fire to Dodge Ram Charger.

A East Hampton woman was arrested on an arson charge following a car fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Katherine Helm, who is 21, allegedly set fire to a 1993 Dodge Ram Charger that was parked in the driveway of 575 Springs Fireplace Road in East Hampton, on the corner of Harbor Boulevard.

A passing volunteer fireman, with the assistance of the vehicle owner, extinguished the blaze around 1:45 p.m., according to a statement from the .

The detective division and the 's office investigated, along with the help of the Suffolk County Police Department's Arson squad.

Helm has been charged with third-degree arson, a felony, and will be arraigned in on Thursday.
