71-Year-Old Sagaponack Man Busted Picking Up Cocaine from Jitney

The Southampton Town Police have arrested a Sagaponack man for receiving  delivery of a package containing Xanax, Oxycodone and cocaine. On July 2, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s East End Drug Task Force learned that the package containing the narcotics was in transit on a Hampton Jitney headed for a pick-up in Bridgehampton.

The Southampton Town Police and the East End Drug Task Force coordinated surveillance on the bus and at the delivery location. When the bus arrived in Bridgehampton, Barton Mark Perlbinder, 71, a third generation real estate developer according to an article that appeared in The New York Times, collected the package and was arrested.

Perlbinder was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree (a Class “A” misdemeanor) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th degree (a class “D” felony.) He was held overnight in the Southampton Town Police lock-up and arraigned the following morning at the Southampton Town Justice Court.
