East Hampton Town police announced on Wednesday morning that there is a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian in Amagansett on Tuesday night.
Detectives are working with Crime Stoppers of Suffolk County to help find the driver, who fled the scene after the crash occurred sometime before 7:52 p.m., when emergency personnel were notified by a passing motorist.
John Judge, a 61-year-old who frequented Astro Pizza on Main Street, was found on the street, across from the restaurant, next to the tire of a truck that was parked on the east side. Judge was transported to Southampton Hospital and emergency room personnel pronounced him dead.
"Detectives believe the vehicle that struck the victim fled the scene in an unknown direction after sustaining damage to the front end in the collision," the statement said.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to do the following: call the East Hampton Town Police Detective Division at 631-537-7575 or email detectives at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
