5 Alarm Fire in North Sea Knocked Down Saturday Night

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of a blaze in a residential and commercial building in North Sea that brought out five fire departments on Saturday night.

The fire gutted at least one apartment on the second floor of the G & C Knoebel Electric Corp. building at 16 Mary's Lane, just one property down from North Sea Road.

North Sea Fire Department chiefs called for assistance from the Southampton, Sag Harbor, and Hampton Bays fire departments after they responded to the call just before 10:30 p.m.

The Southampton Volunteer Ambulance and a rehabilitation truck from the Bridgehampton Fire Department responded, as well.

Residents of the apartments above the family-owned electrical business were reportedly not injured.

Southampton Town police and fire marshals were on scene investigating the cause of the fire.

The Bridgehampton Fire Department stood by at North Sea's headquarters while firefighters fought flames.

Fire chiefs were not immediately available for comment as they were still on scene early Sunday morning. Firefighters were wrapping up at about 12:30 a.m.

Gary and Charles Knoebel Electric Corp., which owns the building, is located on the bottom floor of the former house. It is located between two other business, East Coast Custom Cars and Leo's Electric. The business dates to 1972.
