4 Nabbed in Connection To Car Thefts

East Hampton Town police made arrests on May 22.

East Hampton Town police picked up three people on charges that they rifled through cars, stealing items, in various locations around Springs recently.

Jose L. Nava, 24, of Southampton, Christopher S. Pulido, 21, of East Hampton,
Surith Z. Chavez, 21, of Sag Harbor, and an 18-year-old, whose name police withheld due to youthful offender eligibility status, were arrested on May 21 after police were called about a suspicious vehicle on Fort Pond Boulevard in Springs.

Officers said they found the vehicle parked, unattended in the roadway at about 8:25 p.m. They saw numerous items scattered throughout the interior, they said in a report.

After an investigation, police discovered that Nava, Pulido, and Chavez had stolen several items found within the vehicle. Police also found that a Mercury Sable was stolen from East Hampton and dumped on North Magee Street in Southampton, the same street Nava lives.

The investigation is continuing, Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said.

On May 22, Pulido and Nava were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, and four counts of petty larceny, a misdemeanor. The 18-year-old and Chavez were charged with four counts of petty larceny, but the teen was additionally charged with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, which is also a misdemeanor.

Chavez is still in custody at the Suffolk County jail, according to jail records on Friday. He is being held on $8,000 cash or $16,000 bond, set at his arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court.

Justice Rana also set Pulido's bail at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. He was turned over to Suffolk County Sheriff's deputies. He was in their custody until May 28, when his bail was paid.

Nava was released with an appearance ticket.

The 18-year-old's arraignment information was not available.
