2-Car Accident Sends 3 To Hospital Tuesday

Accident occurred at the entrance of the Montauk Recycling Center.

Two cars collided in front of the entrance to the Montauk Recycling Center, sending three people to the hospital and closing a portion of Montauk Highway briefly on Tuesday afternoon.

Montauk Fire Department Chief Richard Schoen said one car was pulling out of the recycling center when the accident occurred. It was reported at 3:39 p.m.

Three ambulances were called to the scene, but one ambulance ended up transporting two people so the third ambulance was not needed, the chief said. They were all transported to Southampton Hospital.

The chief said he did not believe the patients were seriously injured. East Hampton Town police were also on scene.

The road was closed while EMTs tended to the patients, he said. It has since been reopened.
