He graduated Magna Cum Laude from NYU, where he was also named as a University Honors Scholar.  After serving as an Executive Assistant to former Assemblyman John Behan, he decided to dedicate his life to medicine and attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine in Rochester, NY.

After a Surgical Internship at the University of California -Irvine Medical Center/School of Medicine, he completed a Residency in Anesthesiology and Peri-Operative Medicine at The Brigham & Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. In 1999, Dr. Fischer was chosen by his fellow Residents and faculty members to assume the role of Chief Resident. Following his residency, he completed a Fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesia at The Brigham & Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals and Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Fischer has served as faculty at UCLA and Harvard Medical School.  He is a former faculty member at the Harvard-MIT Center for Medical Simulation where his passion for patient safety and critical event management was established and nurtured. He currently practices in several different states and serves as a patient safety, medical-legal, and practice management consultant.

He often visits his two brothers on the East End and hopes to practice part time in his native East Hampton.
