Who said there's nothing open in Montauk during the winter?

But, the year-round businesses are the backbone of the community — or so points out Captain David Ryan at Sailing Montauk. He took some time out recently to begin recognizing those establishments in a photo essay.

"All together it makes a community that is just as special in the winter as it is in the summer. And that means that while Montauk winters can be long and cold, Montauk winters are never lonely," he writes.

There are so many! Herb's Market Gurney's Inn The Montauket (Great Band Playing there Saturday, btw) Montauk Wines & Liquors White's Liquors White's Drugstore The Corner Store John's Drive In The Albatross East and West The Pizza Village I could go on...

This is great, Montauk is a very special place with many wonderful people. Loved living there back in the day, ( 50's ). In those days we loved Trails End, white's Drugstore, Martell's., Blue Marlon, Johny's tackle shop. I also could go on and on.

Yeah. So used to those perennials, I forgot to mention them. Great places, Loretta. Back in the 50s, pretty much the only places
