Who said there's nothing open in Montauk during the winter?

But, the year-round businesses are the backbone of the community — or so points out Captain David Ryan at Sailing Montauk. He took some time out recently to begin recognizing those establishments in a photo essay.

"All together it makes a community that is just as special in the winter as it is in the summer. And that means that while Montauk winters can be long and cold, Montauk winters are never lonely," he writes.
