Would You Like a Moratorium on Construction?

Some Westhampton residents want construction to cease so they can enjoy their summer. Do you?

Some residents in Westhampton's most well-known neighborhood are called for a moratorium on construction in the summer.

Dune Road homeowners say that they are bombarded with the noise from construction sites seven days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. One resident, Suzanne Oxenhorn told Westhampton-Hampton Bays Patch, "We are very lucky to live here, but these developers are very selfish and inconsiderate. She finds the noise intolerable, and also fears for the safety of anyone on the roadway due to the many construction vehicles parked on the road.

Are East Hampton Town residents bothered by construction in the summer, as well? Would you like to see a moratorium on construction here? Do you think it will fly in Westhampton? Tell us in the comments below.

I would love not work in the summer as lomng as tne neighbors complaining will pay and support my family for 12 weeks in summer .I have been in the construction profession for over 30 years and would like these people to tell me how and when to build a home most likely for their NEIGHBOR (if they know what that means ) as to never disturb them. most likely their vacation home was built or was it just magically put there

No, a moratorium is idiotic.

A very bad idea! Though it would be nice if workers could wait to start work until 8 am on Sunday mornings, but that's just me. Most of us out here need to work very long days in the summer, and that includes weekends. It's a fact of life out here.

The idea of a moratorium at this time in the economic life of this community is preposterous! Finally, things are moving again and to stop it would be very damaging to those who need these jobs.

there has got to be a balance.i am not in construction but in motel business.we are a tourist town, like it or not .my summer clients are awakened every morning at 7am.they listen to the saws hammers ,bulldozers ,music &foul language of the crew next door ..i have installed a.c at my cost &lowered the rates to the clients in the room next to the project.i also need my job - business.the permits were in place in the fall of last season the owner CHOSE to start demolition +total renovation on the first day of summer.all my renovations occur oct-nov,not only as it would interfere with our TOURIST income ,but out of consideration of my neighbors.i would hope they would do the same .my neighbor has very considerately told his constuction contractor not to work on sunday .i thank him for that. one day of peace.
