Do You Want Jay Schneiderman To Run for Supervisor Again?

Deputy Supervisor Theresa Quigley also thinking about running if Bill Wilkinson doesn't in 2013.

Legis. Jay Schneiderman, I-Montauk, is considering a run for East Hampton Town Supervisor, a position he held before becoming a county legislator. According to 27East, Schneiderman is "seriously considering" the bid in 2013, as Deputy Supervisor Theresa Quigley also said she is thinking about running if current Supervisor Bill Wilkinson decides not to seek re-election.

Do you want to see Schneiderman as East Hampton's supervisor, again? How would you feel about Quigley running for the seat? Tell us in the comments below.

Jay did a great job the first time and I would welcome him back! Theresa Quigley is insane if she thinks anyone wants her as Supervisor- wasn't she asked to resign as Councilperson!! There is no bounds to that ego!

OMG Theresa Quigley as Supervisor?? Everyone I know locally, cannot wait until her term is up as it is...........we should go from one ruder than rude Supervisor to another???? Down right rude these two! Sorry, not rude, they are nasty!! nasty!! nasty!! Everyone, and I mean everyone, should watch one town board meeting on TV, just once, to see how repulsive these two are. I was stunned and shocked!!

Jay-O was a great Supervisor before and would be a great Supervisor again. He's a good listener and middle of the road guy which is what we will need next time around. The Town is very polarized right now and needs to come back together. He also left us with a nice surplus when he left office. The only negative I can see is that we would lose some great East End representation at the County legislature.

How soon they forget. Jay ran up $50 million dollars of debt in four years (for real) and turned the fiscal surpluses that Kathy Lester left him into deficits. He also left big unfunded holes in his last, outgoing budget. Expenses grew at a furious rate under his administration and actually slowed their growth under McGintee. The numbers don't lie (although the town financial accounting from the Schneiderman administration was and is a mess). The origins of the Town's fiscal crisis lay squarely in the Schneiderman administration and its terrible financial management. Then there was the endless town master plan that he could not complete, the altered airport layout plan that was falsely submitted to the FAA as the real thing, triggering a Federal grand jury investigation, and plenty of other messes that have faded from memory but will certainly be recalled if Schneiderman chooses to run again. As a Democratic committeeman, I would be happy to see him try, because he will be easy to defeat. Had he run for a third term nine years ago, he would have lost handily. That I know for certain. The polls I took at the time, during my tenure as chair of the East Hampton Town Democratic Committee, made that clear. Also, it is now seemingly forgotten that Mr. Schneiderman is the consummate political opportunist. He has been a Democrat, a Green, a Republican, and, most recently, an Independence party member. Does he have any political convictions at all?

Yes please. Jay is a great person and a great East End supporter in so many ways. It would be great to have him lead the town again.

Don't you have an airport to try and shut down?

Gruber was drubbed by Jayo in the 2001 election (so he has a personal thing going) and has been peddling his financial critique for years and it has been soundly and convincingly rebutted. That attack on Jayo financials just don't fly. Surplus was greater when Jayo left then when he started and was still high at the end of 2004. $20 million of that debt Grubs talks about was money that Lester should have but never borrowed. Sorry Grubs your financial stuff just don't fly as Mr. Monte points out. Jayo's party hopping is certainly something that no one can argue with but who knows, heck your own party may be the one endorsing him in 2013 especially if he runs for re-election to the County in 2013 - your party endorsed him for the County post in 2012 so they must have liked his financial record in EH. The Republicans already have a supervisor who may run for re-election. He did save the town from bankruptcy and rescued it from your handpicked candidate McGintee. Thanks Grubs for that one.

BearHampton: I would first vote for Mr. Cohen. How things would be different todayif he had won. Schneiderman I doubt it? And Quigley? Give me a break, she should have been deposed long ago with Wilkerson. East Hampton is a running joke as far as getting anything honest through planning. Take a look at the new Montauk motel, Sloppy Tuna and the enforcement mess we are into!

Jay-O ; been there done that.. Wilkinson is doing the hard work nobody wants to own up to ... His style takes getting used to ; but tough decisions ARE being made ... Like it or not .. Mr.Gruber is another example of political spinners .. Our Town will NEVER BE THE WAY IT WAS ... Get used to being a TOURIST destination ...ALL Our leaders ( D/R/I etc) SOLD out to polictical wills of second homeowners decades ago ... Now we are feeling the pressure of being a " International getaway" .. Im happy with Wilky .. Leading the way out of David Grubers me$$ ... Point fingers all you want .. McGintee was the rea$on EH TOWN is in the trouble we know now ... The worst Supervisor to date ... Spin that Mr. Gruber

NO NO NO Jay has been doing a great job on the county level He has worked hard and should continue with that or go up to the State level

I agree totally!
Paul Monte August 11, 2012 at 01:48 PM
I agree with Patriot. Wilkie has taken the bull by the horns and turned things around on many different levels. it's been tough and he's taken lots of personal heat for it but he's a man of conviction who does what has to be done. I had assumed from the article that he wasnt going to run again but if he decides to do that I would be behind him again as I have been in the last 2 elections.

As a masochist, I support the Quigley run for Supervisor. She deserves the opportunity to shine alone after being back-up maligner to Wilkinson for all these years. It has distressed me to consider what I might do for disrespect and insults if Wilkinson does not deign to grace us with his leadership again. Quigley would seamlessly continue the policy of denigration and egomaniacal aspersion that Wilkinson has put so firmly in place. With Quigley at the helm, I and my fellow masochists can be assured that town meetings will continue to be immensely gratifying.

Who the heck is Highhatsize? Sounds like a cross between Cosmo Kramer and Lewis Black. A real joker. He is serious or I'm missing something here?

I would not mind seeing Jay take back the job if Bill decides not to run again. The facts are that Bill is doing a responsible job for the town as a whole. I admit Bill is no charm school graduate. But it's ridiculous for people to vote for someone because he is nice. I have spoken to Zach Cohn several times I think he is a great guy and yes very nice. That does not mean I want him handling the check book Zach would prove too expensive for the regular working resident. Isn't it telling or at least it should be that the biggest knock on Bill and the Majority is that they are not nice. Are you kidding me ? Oh! for those who can't remember or haven't been in EH as long as we Real Residents. If you want a study in arrogance and rudeness go back and look to when Tony Bullock set the gold standard for rudeness. But I guess his brand was OK

Jay should speak out now as to where he stands on the important issues facing the town: The waste station, the airport, quality of life issues, etc. We know where Wilkinson stands on all of these: right in the pocket(s) of his campaign contributors. He should step aside because somebody will thrash him if he runs again. Heck he just barley squeaked out a victory over a total unknown last time and he's done nothing but aggravate his constituents since. As for TQ: I had to check my calender real quick. At first I thought you were publishing an April Fools joke. You ARE kidding aren't you?
