Former Montauk Fire Chief, State Parks Policeman Dies

Thomas Grenci Sr. was 76.

Thomas Grenci Sr., a former chief of the and a retired State Parkway policeman, died unexpectedly at his home in West Melbourne, FL, on Nov. 30. He was 76. 

Grenci had also been the Assistant Park Manager, in charge of the Montauk State Parks system, which include , and , from 1958 to 1991. He was a chief in Montauk's fire department from 1982 to 1984, according to records.

He was pre-deceased by his wife of 40 years, the former Romona Silipo.

Surviving him are his son Lt. Thomas Grenci Jr. of Montauk and his wife Lisa Grenci, and daughter Christina Grenci Keefer of Chicago, Illinois and her husband Glenn Keefer. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Sean Keefer, Anna Keefer, Thea Grenci, Eva Grenci and Thomas Grenci III.

Services will be held on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the in East Hampton. A Mass will be held at in Montauk Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Fort Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Montauk firehouse.
