We’re surrounded by nature’s beauty on the East End. But, when’s the last time you enjoyed it up close and personally? If you haven’t lately, I encourage you to take a walk in the woods, visit a beach or paddle in the bay!
Since the early 1950s, has worked with partners to protect more than 150,000 acres of pine barrens forests, coastal dunes, ocean beaches, and wetlands across Long Island for wildlife and for you! Explore our preserves, sanctuaries and trails and, most of all, enjoy nature!
A list of Conservancy visitor preserves is available at our newly designed website at www.nature.org/longisland. Now, you can leave comments about your visit so that others can enjoy a special place or see the same wildlife and plants that you may have enjoyed.

Our preserves are open from dawn to dusk year-round for walking, bird watching, cross country skiing and other passive recreational use. You don’t need special equipment, parking permits or entrance fees to enjoy them. You do need to be cautious of ticks and other insects, so dress in long pants and shirts and check yourself often.
I hope you make some time to get out and visit our beautiful natural areas on Long Island whether on land or by sea. And the next time someone tells you to take a hike, do it!
