Collaborations are Great for All!

Montauk Youth, Inc. and other organizations combine forces to bring fun activities to Montauk.

I love a good collaboration. There are so many groups out on the East End that exist for the benefit of our communities and it just makes sense for them to join forces on projects and events every once in a while. So, I thought today I’d give a shout-out to some of those groups and the events and programs on which they’re working together. I am a little biased here, listing upcoming events on which Montauk Youth collaborates – please don’t hold it against me, and please feel free to comment below on other great collaborations.

Montauk’s Scarecrow Days – October 5 to November 2: Montauk Youth, Inc. and the Montauk Village Association have teamed up to bring this creative activity to the Montauk community. In its second year now, it’s quickly becoming a Montauk tradition. Several scarecrows are already up, and we expect to see more than 50 around town by the weekend.

Street Painting at Montauk’s Fall Festival – October 7: Montauk Youth, Inc. and the Montauk Chamber of Commerce are adding this to the annual Fall Festival weekend, when Main Street in downtown Montauk is closed for festivities including bounce houses, the Chowder Contest, a carousel, pumpkin painting, the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation’s Chinese Auction fundraiser, and so much more. This is the first year for the Street Painting, where several artist groups will create works of art right in the middle of Main Street.

Field Day – October 14: Field Day has been a Montauk tradition since the 1980s. Montauk Youth, Inc. and the Concerned Citizens of Montauk have been working together annually for over a decade on this free community event, which includes obstacles courses, old fashioned races, a pie throw, bubble gum contest, live music by the 3Bs and more.

Perhaps Montauk Youth’s largest collaboration out here is with the Montauk School. We’re constantly coming up with new ideas for programs, and the Montauk School is always so supportive, letting us use facilities and fields, distributing information to students and parents, and helping us make sure that every child who wants to participate has the opportunity to do so. And - lest I forget - Montauk Youth is funded in part by a grant from the Town of East Hampton, which helps cover insurance costs and keeps our program costs affordable.
