East Hampton Man Saves Jimmy Fallon (video)

On Monday's Tonight Show Jimmy Fallon gave a shout out to Elisha Osborn, the owner of Hammer Towing on Main Street in Wainscott, who pulled Fallon's stuck SUV off a local beach. (Click here to see the video.)

Fallon said he thought he'd take his wife and baby for a romantic ride on the beach in his new "Earth Rover" after watching commercials for the vehicle in which it scales massive rocks. "I figured I'd do the manly thing and just take it into sand."

That was a mistake.

After "hydroplaning" around on the sand with his daughter gleefully mesmerized by the exuberant movements of her mobile toy careening from side to side, Fallon said he started sweating and looking for a way to get off the beach as quickly as possible. No luck, the Range Rover sank deeper into the sand.

"I'm an idiot," Fallon said. "I didn't know what to do. I panicked. I called 911." An annoyed dispatcher told him to call a tow truck instead.

Fallon called the Wainscott-based Hammer Towing, a tow company whose business card features a drawing of a big sore toe. A close-up of the card drew appreciative chuckles from the Tonight Show studio audience.

Fallon also gave a shout-out to Osborn's comedic skills, recounting that the tow truck operator told him, "You know you can't park there," before pulling the red SUV from the sand.

Reached by phone, Osborn confirmed the story, adding that it happened on  Peter's Pond Beach, in Sagaponack.

"He was totally cool but kind of embarrassed," Osborn told Patch. "He was on the access road--he'd almost made it off the beach."

He added, "I told him I love those Range Rovers because I pull more of them out than any other car."
