Scrimshaw: Local Sailors Whiling Away the Time

As part of the 's Winter 2011 lectures, Richard Barons will give a talk on "Scrimshaw: Local Sailors Whiling Away the Time." During the whaling of the 19th century, macramé, wood carving, miniature cabinetwork, whale bone and tooth carving, and engraving were ways to spend the down time. Barons will show off these crafts that are in the historical society's collection. Reservations are requested. Refreshments will be served.
