OPENING RECEPTION FOR "UNINHIBITED DEFINITION" RECENT WORKS BY JON MULHERN

UNINHIBITED DEFINITION, a solo exhibit featuring paintings and sculptures by East End artist Jon Mulhern, opens Saturday, October 13 with a reception from 5 to 9pm at 4 North Main Gallery in Southampton, NY. Additional viewing times will be available by appointment.

“My work is created with raw movements—painting and sculpting using textures, creating intimate moments of detail,” he said. “I’m looking forward to introducing myself and my work to the East End arts community.”

Jon was born in the Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. and became an artist at an early age. First attending the nationally known Visual Arts Center program during high school, he studied art at the Maryland Institute, College of Art (MICA), earning his BA in Fine Arts followed by his Master’s of Art in Teaching.

Later, Jon moved to Brooklyn, NY to pursue both careers in education and art, and ultimately relocated to the Hamptons a year ago to teach Visual Arts at Ross School. Exploring his new environment, Jon has rediscovered his passion for the natural world, an aspect of his work that had faded in the background of urban life during his time in New York City. Building connections to the local people and environment, Jon has found a new breath of style.

“Jon Mulhern is a young painter I've had the pleasure to have met over the past year,” said East End painter Paton Miller, who quickly developed an interest in Jon’s artwork, which reflects on natural movements and shifting landscapes. “He has embarked on the quixotic mission of probably the most difficult mission in painting—that would be abstract paintings. Jon has embarked on this mission and for my money he's the real deal.”

UNINHIBITED DEFINITION will remain on view through October 15. For more information on Jon and his body of work, please visit www.jonmulhern.com or call 240-418-6273.
