UPDATE: Winter Storm Knocks Out Power for Some in Montauk

LIPA is still working to restore power to nearly 185 customers.

The Long Island Power Authority worked through the night, and into Monday morning, to restore power to over 300 customers in East Hampton Town in the midst of the winter snow storm.

At about 8:20 a.m., the LIPA power outage map showed 184 customers were without services of the 24,323 that LIPA provides services to in town.

Meanwhile, according to the National Weather Service, eastern Suffolk County has received about 3.7 inches of snow. Another 1 to 2 inches is expected to fall on Monday morning. The service is clocking a north wind between 34 and 38 m.p.h. with gusts as high as 55 m.p.h.

Several wires were reported down or arching due to the high winds and heavy snow throughout the area.

The majority of those still without power on Monday morning are located in Montauk. According to LIPA, 154 are without power, including the 36 in the Montauk Point area that are still without power at least until. For those 47 in the Soundview Drive area and the 65 plus along Old Montauk Highway, LIPA said it is still addressing the cause.

At 7:30 p.m., there were over 300 outages in Montauk alone. About 250 of those outages were on Flamingo Avenue, and have since been restored.

Transportation in and out East Hampton has been slow on Monday morning. Early eastbound and westbound trips on the Hampton Jitney were canceled Sunday evening, as well as the earliest westbound and eastbound trips on Monday morning. The Jitney has told its customers traveling later this morning and this afternoon to expect delays.

The LIRR reported service suspension due to storm related switch trouble at Jamaica station, eastbound LIRR service has been temporarily suspended. Westbound service is operating with delays.
