Weekend Spotlight: Amagansett Farmers Fare Feeds Local Foodies

Farmers will make hors d'oeuvres from locally-grown ingredients.

Munch on fresh local eats at , a fundraiser for the Amagansett Food Institute on Saturday at the Amber Waves Farm in Amagansett.

Local farmers market vendors will offer hors d'oeuvres at the farm, a not-for-profit organic farm and educational organization designed to teach the local community about food and farming issues. An evening of dancing follows, with live music provided by Escola de Samba Boom!

Over 15 local farmers and food producers will be on hand, including Pete's Endless Summer, Blue Duck Bakers, Carissa's Breads, Channing Daughters and Wolffer Vineyards.

The food institute was formed in January 2010 with a mission to promote and celebrate sustainable food and farming on the East End by supporting farmers, fishermen, vintners and other food producers. It also seeks to educate the community about the importance of healthy food consumption.

It plans to develop a "food campus" that will include a working organic farm, educational center with classroom space, lectures, and a commercial community kitchen.

Festivities begin at 6 p.m. at Amber Waves Farm, located at 375 Main St., behind the .
