ALEC BALDWIN DONATES QUARTER MIL TO LIBRARY: The actor and Amagansett resident has that will be built sometime next year. This was the third large donation to East Hampton-based organizations; he donated another $500,000, equally split between the Hamptons International Film Festival and Guild Hall earlier this year.

TWO FIRES IN MONTAUK: East Hampton Highway Department Foreman Terry Nesbitt, who happened to be nearby when a , rescued a dog from inside the house that was filled with smoke on Oct. 28. As reported on Nov. 1, there was also another electrical fire in Montauk just two days later.

Education

PRINCIPALS CHALLENGE STATE: Hundreds of Long Island public school principals are challenging the state Education Department and , including East Hampton School District principals.  "We have wonderful teachers in this school and we do a thorough observation and evaluation process in our school ... There are little victories every day in the classroom, and a single snapshot with a single test does not indicate that," said principal Chris Tracey.

Do You Want a Townwide Re-Assessment Patch reader Irene wrote: "Yes, I believe that it is time to re-assess. We recently built a new (and larger) house, and my property taxes have tripled. While my neighbor, who is selling her house (which she inherited) for about tripple what our house is worth, only pays 1/3 of what we pay. Our property is .33 acre and the neighbor's is 1.66 acre. Is this fair? The town will make the money back from the extra revenue from the reassessment. And everyone would pay their fair share." Give your answer .
