POLICE CHIEF: MAPPING SYSTEM RISKING 'PUBLIC SAFETY': Calling outdated maps and the inability to correct mistakes , East Hampton Village Police Department Chief Jerry Larson lobbied village trustees on Thursday morning for $55,000 over three years to improve the system.

BOOKKEEPER'S SENTENCING DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH SHE PAYS BACK:
Kerri Dewhirst, who pleaded guilty in October to embezzling over $400,000 in her capacity at Schenck Fuels, she makes at her sentencing, which was initially scheduled for Jan. 4. It has been adjourned to Feb. 21.

RARE BOOK DEALER DIES SNORKELING: Noted rare book and art dealer John McWhinnie, who lived and worked in East Hampton and Manhattan, while vacationing in the British Virgin Islands on Friday. British Royal Police said McWhinnie, 43, and his wife, jewelry designer Maria Beaulieu, were snorkeling on a coral reef on Savannah Bay beach on the island of Virgin Gorda, which is about a half-hour from Tortola.

Government

TOWN OFFICIALS START 2012 TERM: This week, town officials who won election in November just a few days after ringing in the New Year. Supervisor Bill Wilkinson began his second term, while town council members Sylvia Overby and Peter Van Scoyoc, Superintendent of Highways Stephen Lester and a few were sworn in for the first time.

TOWN DROPS CHARGES AGAINST LARRY PENNY: The town , who had been suspended without pay in December. An undisclosed agreement was reached and it was announced Penny is readying for retirement.
