Snow Causes 2-Hour Delay at Local Schools; Highway Crews Out Since 3

Town highway superintendent says roads are slippery on Friday morning.

Schools in the Town of East Hampton are having a two-hour delayed opening on Friday morning due to the snowfall overnight.

Amagansett, East Hampton, Montauk, Springs and Wainscott school districts decided on the delayed openings after the area finally got the winter storm on Thursday evening that was initially expected to start on Wednesday.

There will be no morning pre-Kindergarten at the Montauk School. The Science Fair at the school is still on, though.

It was not immediately clear if the Ross School or CDCH was also having a two-hour delay.

East Hampton Town Highway Department crews were out salting at 3 a.m. on Friday, according to Superintendent Stephen Lynch, who said the area received 2 to 3 inches of snow.

Around 4:15 a.m., town workers began plowing to "slush off the roads to keep them safe," Lynch said. "Please tell people to drive with caution because roads are and will be slippery," he said.
