Ship Crew Member Injured off Montauk

Video shows how the Coast Guard helicopter airlifted a patient from a container ship on Tuesday.

A crew member on a container ship about 48 miles off of Montauk was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center on Tuesday with an eye injury.

The First Coast Guard District Command Center received word that a 53-year-old crewmember aboard the vessel Dusseldorf Express required medical assistance, since the ship was not pulling into port soon, according to a statement.

An MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod responded. The patient was hoisted into the helicopter and taken to the Long Island hospital.
