Sept. 13: Catch-Up on the News

A quick round-up of some important stories covered recently.

With Hurricane Irene, Labor Day, then the 10th anniversary of 9/11, we've all been preoccupied. If you need to catch-up on the local news, here's a quick fix. 

1. The Georgica ocean-front property owner and the fence builder who two weeks ago have been by East Hampton Villag officials. A ticket from the Department of Environmental Conservation is expected to follow. 

2. The Amagansett Fire District will ask the district taxpayers for permission to bond for the purchase of the former next to its . Commissioner Jack Emptage said the district needs the extra space for another ambulance and, eventually, paid EMTs.

3. Speaking of a fire department, the turnout for the East Hampton Fire Department's annual Labor Day weekend was disappointing. More donations will be necessary to pay for a show of the same caliber in 2012. 

4. While attendance was just fine in Montauk on the Fourth of July, the was scant on donations.

5. Lastly, news that just broke this weekend. , who owns Island Riders surf shop in Amagansett and Amityville, went missing while riding the waves off Gilgo Beach on Thursday. A body of white man washed up on Jones Beach on Monday. Investigators will determine if it is that of Gottfried.
