On one of the last beautiful sunny days in August, South Fork residents and visitors would just rather the impending Hurricane Irene just take a hike.
On Twitter, from in Montauk @BeachDogMTK tell us: "it's pretty rough out here ! Red flag" on the ocean signaling really rough surf. That didn't keep the beach-goers away, as seen in the picture tweeted to @EHamptonPatch.
From the on Napeague, manager Leigh Goodstein reported it was quiet just before lunch time despite heavy westbound traffic out of town.

A sign behind the road-side restaurant said it best, "Irene, You Suck!"
