Mosquito Spraying Tuesday Night on Amagansett Beaches

County to spray Beach Hampton and Napeague areas between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Two weeks after the first confirmed case of West Nile was discovered in Patchogue, the Suffolk County Department of Health said it will spray two Amagansett beaches with insecticide Tuesday night.

Between 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., the county will spray the mosquito-killing chemical, Scourge, over the Beach Hampton neighborhood, covering streets south of Montauk Highway from Sandpiper Lane to Napeague Lane. The county will also spray the Napeague area covering all streets south of Montauk Highway between Marlin Drive and Dolphin Drive.

On July 14, the county discovered mosquitoes in Patchogue that were carrying the virus, which killed six people on Long Island in 2010.

Pregnant women and children in the area are advised to stay indoors during the spraying.
