East Hampton Native Named Senior Scholar Athlete

Joseph Quigley, who just graduated from Catholic University, honored for his skills on and off the track field.

The Landmark Conference has named East Hampton native Joseph Quigley, a recent graduate of Catholic University in Washington, D.C., a Senior Scholar Athlete.

He is one of only eight students in the entire conference and the only student from Catholic University to be honored with the award this semester.

The Landmark Conference — a Division III subset of the NCAA, made up of eight member universities from New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania — was founded in 2006 and represents over 2,000 student athletes.

This past week, a committee of conference officers and university athletic administrators picked one student athlete from each spring sport; baseball, softball, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s tennis. Students are selected based on their achievements both on the field and in the classroom, requiring a minimum grade point average of 3.22 for consideration.

Quigley, who majored in mechanical engineering, is a two-sport athlete, participating in both indoor and outdoor track for the Catholic University Cardinals.

Apart from his 3.55 grade point average and five appearances on the Landmark Honor Roll over the last two years, Quigley also came in second place in the men’s 800 meters at the last two Landmark Championship track meets. Additionally, during the winter indoor track season, Quigley came in third in the men’s 800 meters during a February Landmark Conference meet.

Quigley's mother, East Hampton Town Deputy Supervisor Theresa Quigley, had this to say. “Joseph passed his engineering exam and made the Dean’s List Cum Laude. We are very proud.” His father is Tom Quigley.
