LIRR Adds Extra Train for St. Paddy's Parade

Train schedule and road closure information for Sunday.

If you're heading out to Montauk for the , there are extra trains and road closures lined up.

The MTA Long Island Rail Road has added an extra eastbound morning train just for the 49th annual Montauk Friends of Erin parade on Sunday.

The additional train leaves the Jamaica station on at 8:43 a.m. and picks up passengers at Babylon at 9:27, Bay Shore at 9:33, Islip at 9:38, Great River at 9:42 , Oakdale at 9:46, Sayville at 9:51, Patchogue at 9:58, Bellport at 10:05, Mastic-Shirley at 10:12, Speonk at 10:33, Westhampton at 10:39, Hampton Bays at 10:49, Southampton at 10:59, Bridgehampton at 11:07, at 11:17, and at 11:22. It will pull into the at 11:42 a.m.

Regular trains leave Jamaica on Sunday morning for Montauk at 8:10 and 10:10 a.m.

The LIRR has advised that customers should purchase round-trip tickets in advance to assure a seat on all Montauk-bound trains.

Meanwhile, Joe Bloecker of the Montauk Friends of Erin suggested that those driving to Montauk arrive before 11 a.m., when inbound traffic will be stopped on Main Street.

The parade is set to end at about 3 p.m, and westbound trains are scheduled to leave Montauk at 3:35 and 5:35 p.m.

As always, alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the trains. "In an effort to maintain orderly travel for our customers attending the Montauk St. Patrick’s Day Parade, alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on LIRR Montauk Branch trains, platforms and stations (from Babylon through Montauk) from 9 a.m. through midnight," the LIRR's website said. Drinks will be confiscated by MTA Police.
