UPDATE: LIPA Reports Restores Power to Some, Still Nearly 350 Without Power in Montauk

Outages are occurring on the ocean and bay sides of the South Fork, while transit comes to a halt.

While the Long Island Power Authority has restored power to nearly 200 customers in East Hampton Town, it reported at 10 p.m. that about 350 are without power in Montauk and Amagansett on Sunday night as the winter storm blasts through the South Fork. Meanwhile, the the Long Island Rail Road and the Hampton Jitney has suspended service.

Several wires, most recently in the parking lot at , have been reported down or arching due to the high winds and heavy snow throughout the area.

The LIPA outages map showed there are about 190 outages in Montauk and 150 in Amagansett. About 40 customers on Soundview Avenue on the Long Island Sound have been without power for over three hours. LIPA said those customers can expect to be restored by 11 p.m.

In the Lazy Point area of Amagansett, 155 customers have been reported to have outages. LIPA's Storm Center said the problem is still being assessed.

About 100 customers on the ocean side of Montauk between the village and Ditch Plains were also without power. Thirty-six more up by Montauk Point State Park are also without power.

There are sporadic outages on Cranberry Hole Road and in the Beach Hampton area of Amagansett, and on Long Lane in East Hampton.

At 7:30 p.m., there were over 300 outages in Montauk alone. About 250 of those outages were on Flamingo Avenue, and have since been restored.

While motorists continue to stay off the roadway due to worsening conditions, other means of transportation in and out East Hampton have come to a halt.

The Hampton Jitney said that service would be interrupted through Monday morning. Eastbound and westbound trips were canceled Sunday evening, as well as the earliest westbound and eastbound trips on Monday morning.

The LIRR reported service suspension due to storm related switch trouble at Jamaica station, eastbound LIRR service has been temporarily suspended. Westbound service is operating with delays.
