July 28: SPCA, Private Schools and the Recession, Cyber-Bullying

See what's going on around East Hampton before the weekend swings in.

1. The Suffolk County SPCA announced Wednesday afternoon that it is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for at the Royal Atlantic Motel in Montauk on Saturday. Though authorities have not determined a connection, this is the third animal cruelty crime in as many weeks on the East End. Last week, a swan was nearly killed after it was shot with an arrow, and two weeks ago, a box turtle was found in Noyac with a nail driven through the shell. The swan and seagull are recovering at the Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in Hampton Bays.

2. Today is going to be a beautiful, sunny day on the East End, so if you're spending the day on the beach, you don't need to leave for lunch, as now delivers to Main Beach in East Hampton. 3. The East Hampton Board of Education has voted to at all education levels. It is the first time since 2008 prices will increase, and officials cite the cost will still be the lowest on the South Fork.

4. Patches across the East End on Thursday are profiling the local private school system in the wake of the recession. Some schools, including the oldest Catholic school on Long Island, have closed down, while others are starting to feel squeezed by the tough economy. Today East Hampton Patch will look at as it prepares for the 2011-2012 school year.
