Jan. 18: Winter Wellness Challenge and Change in the SEPTA Meeting

A quick rundown of what you need to know about Tuesday.

Did you wake up to snow this morning? Snow was expected to make the morning commute a bit messy, so be careful on the roads and allow extra time to get to work and school if necessary. Since you're surely more pressed for time than usual, thanks to another dusting of snow, here's a rundown of what's going on:

1. Coming up on East Hampton Patch on Tuesday, we will bring you information about an all around great Slow Food event on the North Fork. The dinner will in part benefit the family of Joshua M. Levine, who died in a tractor accident at in November.

2. The East Hampton boys swim team swims in a meet on Tuesday afternoon at the . Check these guys out at 4:30 p.m.

3. Looking for some help with your diet or looking to try a new way of eating. The , which promotes a plant strong diet, is hosting a winter wellness challenge. The seven-week program is promised to make you lose weight, lower cholesterol, and reduce prescription drug use. Trained facilitators lead groups that start meeting on Jan. 31. Participants have to sign-up in advance in order to get blood work done and receive doctor's prescription.

, offered through East Hampton Continuing Education, will commence on Tuesday at the . Claudia Matles, a certified pilates and yoga practitioner, will teach the six week course for $85. Whether you're a beginner or a regular pilates student, you are welcome to join the class. Check out the event listing to reserve a spot. Classes begin at 6 p.m.

5. The East End Special Education PTA, known as SEPTA, was supposed to hold a workshop on social skills to help parents learn how their children can make and keep friends on Tuesday night at . Dr. Sagit Vishnia, a behavioral psychologist, was to present, but at the last minute was unable to attend, according to organizers. The meeting will still take place at 7 p.m.
