Injured Fisherman Rescued Off Of Montauk Point

Coast Guard transported crew member of Laura Peggy to shore.

A fisherman severely cut his finger aboard a vessel 20 miles south of on Thursday and was given medical assistance at sea.

The Coast Guard boarded "Laura Peggy," which is homeported in New London, C.T., after the crew called for help at around 4 p.m. A flight surgeon who was consuted determined that the injured 25 year old needed immediate care, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.

Members from transferred the injured crew member onto their vessel and took him to shore, where emergency medical technicians were waiting to transport him to Southampton Hospital.

“The fishing vessel captain was relieved to know his crew member was in good hands,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Tom Twomley, the small boat coxswain. “As soon as we transferred the crew member to our boat he appeared to be at ease. Our trained boat crew acted quickly with first aid response and ensured his safety during the transit.”
