Feb. 28: Melissa Leo Wins the Oscar and Southern Writers Book Group Gathers

Here's what you need to know at the start of a new week.

The kids head back to school this morning, and Monday morning also brings with it some great news for an East Hampton father.

1. A big congratulations to Melissa Leo, the daughter of East Hampton's Arnold Leo. She took home the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday night for her terrific, if I do say so myself, role of Micky Ward's mother in The Fighter. Among those she thanked in her acceptance speech was her father, who is one proud papa (expletive and all). 

2. The East Hampton Town Board is considering closing the sanitation department and recycling center on Wednesdays. We'll have more on this later on East Hampton Patch, so be sure to check back. But, as a cost-cutting measure, what do you think of the move? Let us know in the comments section.

4. A new book group begins on Monday evening. The will gather at the at 5:30 p.m. Ashley Wilbourn will be leading the discussion on "Huckleberry Finn" this time around, and Southern libations will be served.

5. The is gathering at on Monday night to hear from town officials regarding . Pat Gunn, an attorney who is heading that department, and Ed Ecker will address the group. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
