East Hampton's Lifeguards Show Their Skills on Film

John Ryan, Sr. is being featured in a film that shows the rigors of being a lifeguard.

Each summer, hundreds of residents and vacationers hit East Hampton's beaches, cooling off in the waters. Ensuring their safety is team of lifeguards who train rigorously — their journey and their hard work will soon be brought to film in the form of a documentary.

For nearly a year, the creators of the documentary have been following John Ryan, Sr., chief of the East Hampton Lifeguards, founder of the Hampton Lifeguard Association and member of the Volunteer Ocean Rescue Squad, along with his fellow lifeguards to create the film which will be released to limited audiences, according to an article posted on 27east.

The film, called "Big Bad John’s Lifeguards for Life", according to 27east, shows lifeguards on the job at area beaches and pools, and drilling.

East Hampton's lifeguards make numerous saves each year and are at the ready to assist.  Just this summer,  the Ocean Rescue Squad was called after a 15-year-old got caught in rough surf at Amaganset Beach, when a swimmer was in distress at Hither Hills State Park and after a child fell off a kayak by the Hands Creek boat dock and was drifting.
