Drainage Work in Springs Wraps-Up This Week

Highway superintendent said the county is getting work done in East Hampton Town.

Drainage remediation in East Hampton and Springs, that slowed traffic slightly, should wrap up this week, according to Superintendent Scott King.

King's crew isn't doing the work though; Suffolk County Department of Public Works is in charge of this road work that started on Tuesday.

While the county did not return a call for comment, King said the work should correct some flooding issues between Abraham's Path and Church Lane in Springs where there are elevation changes.

Workers alternated traffic when necessary as they worked on the shoulders of Springs-Fireplace Road last week.

"We have a good relationship with the county," King said, adding that Suffolk County Department of Public Works Commissioner Gilbert Anderson was instrumental in getting what he said was much-needed work completed.

The county and the town recently teamed up for shore revetment work in the town-owned parking lot next to . Since West Lake Drive is a county road, the two municipalities worked together to restore what was lost in the winter storm erosion. The county funded the cost of the materials and the town highway department supplied the labor.

King also reported that the county has agreed to drainage remediation on Soak Hides Road that causes runoff into Three Mile Harbor. King believes the effort will improve the harbor, which has been closed to shellfishing.
