Andy Neidnig, Nonagenarian Runner, Dies

Life-long runner had competed in 30 marathons.

Andy Neidnig, who continued taking part in races on the South Fork into his 90s, has died.

He turned 93 on July 3.

Neidnig told in 2009, while celebrating his 90th birthday at his usual haunt Conca D’Oro in Sag Harbor, that he had competed in 30 marathons, including a ninth-place finish at the Boston Marathon in 1938. He also set an over-70 record with a 2:57 at New York in 1992, The Star reported.

A Sag Harbor resident, his services will be held at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. Visiting hours are scheduled for Wednesday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Oakland Cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m.
