The East Hampton GOP – On The Campaign Trail

Message from the Chair:

Part 1: Looking Back…

Earlier today I reviewed an article entitled “East Hampton’s Credit Rating Increases” published in the East Hampton Patch. The article reviews a Bloomberg.com report that states our Town’s credit rating increase reflects the “view that the town’s financial position will continue to stabilize given strong budgeting and formal policies to maintain ample reserves.”

If you really think about it, this is a remarkable achievement. Just a few years ago our Town was on the brink of bankruptcy due to out of control spending, faulty fiscal management, and a Town Board made up of 5 Democratic members that never questioned how they were financing their bloated Town government.  We later learned it was being financed, in part, by their illegal raiding of our Community Preservation Fund!

It was the hard work and leadership of three newly elected Republican Town Board members in 2010 that steered us through this fiscal crisis. And it is important that we remember this hard learned lesson moving forward.

On November 5, 2013 we face a critical local election. The East Hampton Town Republican Party understands that the issues we faced in 2010 are different than the ones on the minds of our citizens in 2013.  Still, we are and always will be a party that promotes fiscal conservancy – for without a strong financial foundation, our Town cannot adequately confront other important complex challenges.  It is the Republican candidates that understood this fundamental in 2010 and helped us achieve financial stability. Likewise, the candidates running on the Republican ticket in 2013 understand this essential principle as well.

Our future updates will outline the East Hampton Town Republican Committee’s view of our Town’s future, the pressing challenges we currently face, a view of our candidates, and individual candidate statements.  But first, I would like to thank you for your interest and time. Stay tuned, there’s more to come…
